The Java reed was developed by Vandoren in 1983, taking into account the requirements of jazz saxophonists and popular music. They have a thicker end and a more flexible "tongue" than the Traditional reed, which allows vibration over a larger surface area with maximum elasticity.
This type of air column gives the musician a greater flexibility of touch, as a result of the fact that the zone of elasticity is very great.
The "tongue" is a zone where the waves propagate with greater amplitude. From the tip, the waves are more absorbed in the JAVA reeds.
