The Gewa Ghana Medium Caxixi is a traditional percussion instrument made from a closed basket covered made of wicker with a flat dried gourd base. Sound is produced by shaking the seeds inside, creating different tones depending on the angle: softer when striking the basket and louder, sharper when hitting the hard base. Widely used in African and South American musical traditions, it is especially associated with Brazilian music and berimbau accompaniment.
