The Gewa Ghana Large Caxixi is a traditional percussion instrument made from a closed basket covered made of wicker and with a flat dried gourd base. Sound is created by shaking the instrument, producing different tones depending on the angle: softer when the contents strike the basket and louder, sharper when hitting the hard base. It is used in musical traditions across Africa and South America, particularly in Brazil.
