The original mechanical string machine was already over a century old when Laurits Th. Larsen, a professional violinist, began experimenting with string design and manufacture. In 1990, he received an order for 300 strings to supply to an American colleague, an order he was unable to fill. The solution he found was to start producing them himself in the family garage. About eighteen months later, the first cello strings were perfected.

Today, Larsen has become an internationally recognized company, with global exports of its products.
