The Mahalo MR1YW is an improved version of one of the brand's most popular ukuleles. The body and neck are in Sengon, a wood from Asia that is widely used for its resistance, lightness and malleability and, in musical instruments, for its resonance.

To enhance the bass, the Mahalo MR1YW has a Canadian NuBone Extended Bass (XB) bridge, which increases its projection and response compared to other plastic bridges, in addition to providing greater sustain and definition. Manufactured at high temperatures, the NuBone XB was created to sustain lower frequencies, as if it were a high-end instrument.

The strings are Nylgut, from Aquila, the strings that are becoming the standard for ukuleles. This synthetic material imitates the acoustic characteristics of gut, but without costing as much and with greater longevity than this type of string. The surface of the strings is polished for smoother playing. Nylgut strings are resistant to high tensions and maintain intonation even with changes in weather.
