MIDI is a standard created in 1982 by a consortium of American and Japanese synthesizer manufacturers that aims to produce real-time communication between electronic musical instruments, computers and other devices. The norm presupposes a physical layer (inputs and outputs midi in the instruments), protocol and connection. The acronym MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface.
MIDI transmits messages that contain notation, pitch, velocity, height, vibrato, panning, track number and clock signals, which allow the rhythm to be synchronized between various devices. The so-called MIDI cable transmits these messages between devices that control sound generation or perform other functions. You can record these messages using a hardware device or computer program (known as sequencer). These programs usually allow you to edit the data or play it back.
The best-known MIDI controllers are keyboards, guitars, or wind instruments (saxophone). With MIDI you can play the sounds contained in the instrument table of a synthesizer, for example, you can play a keyboard and extract the sound of a violin, or a trumpet.
