The bagpipes are an instrument of the aerophone family. It is composed of a melodic tube, called a pointer, with holes where the musical notes are played, a bellows or bag that stores the air and an insufflator tube equipped with a valve (blower). In most bagpipes there is still a melodic tube (called a drone or snoring) that allows a constant note (called a pedal) to be emitted in harmony with the notes produced by the melodic tube.
The bagpipe is a modal instrument, most of which is on the C-scale (ionic mode). It should also be mentioned that it is one of the few air-fed instruments that can play continuously, without the piper having to pause to breathe.
In particular, the Galician pipes comes from Galicia and northern Portugal. It has had a great increase of popularity since the decade of 70 of the last century, being the instrument of election of many artists and folk groups.
