The tenor horn is a wind instrument of the metal family.
It is one of the instruments that was developed by Adolphe Sax, with the aim of having a homogenous family of instruments that could be used to replace the other metals in orchestras, metal bands or military. That is why in 1844 came a series of instruments ranging from the most acute (sopranino) to the most severe (sub-double bass). But not all models have avenged themselves over time, although their use has been referred to in US military bands. Nowadays the most used sax-horns are the high-horn saxophone (in E-flat), the baritone-horn saxophone (in B-flat) and the bass-horn saxophone (in E-flat).
The appearance of the present horns is different from what it had at the time of its invention. The horn was narrower and the tubing had fewer turns. There was even a vertical format intended to be used by bands on horseback and another one called "over the shoulder" to be used by infantry bands, but this format has since disappeared, giving way to today's vertical format, more compact and with tubing more coiled.
