The bar chimes is a percussion instrument consisting of small solid aluminum cylinders or hollow brass tubes of varying lengths hanging from a bar. They are played by passing a finger or stick by the pendant bells or the strings that support them, producing ascending or descending glissandos.
Also called Mark Tree in honor of the inventor, the percussionist Mark Stevens, who invented it in 1967.
