The udu drum is a percussion instrument from Nigeria. It was created by the Igbo and Hausa ethnic groups, in whose language udu means canister or peace.
It consists of a ceramic clay piece (also can be carved in stone), shaped like the vessels used to carry water, with a top or side hole. It was essentially touched by women in certain ceremonies. It is played with the hands and produces a serious sound with a cavo effect, when being struck with a quick blow on the mouthpiece. You can play anywhere on the body of the instrument, producing different sounds.
