The bombardino, euphonium, or tenor tube is an aerophone instrument of the metal family. It belongs to the class of the tubas.
The word "euphonium" means beautiful sound, for having a softer and delicate tone than the trombone. The extension is the same as that of the trombone or bassoon, reaching 4 octaves.
The sound of the bombardino does not stand out between an orchestra, given the softness of its sound but also because the position of the bell face upwards helps to mix the sound with the other instruments.
Generally the bombardinos are tuned in B flat and in C, being that the bombardinos in B flat have a brighter sound. The bombardino in C is used almost exclusively in Portugal.
