The record of the flute covers three octaves ranging from C3 (central C of the piano) to C6, and very experienced flute players may be able to reach D6. Some modern flutes allow to play B2.
There are other types of flutes, such as the picollo (it sounds one octave above the common flute), the bass flute (it sounds one octave below the common flute) and the alto flute (starts at G2).
