The APC GC guitalele brings all the fun of six guitar strings into an instrument shaped like a ukulele. It is manufactured by APC, one of the most respected manufacturers of acoustic instruments in Portugal.
The top, bottom and sides are made of solid koa, a wood widely used in musical instruments due to its resistance, acoustic characteristics and appearance. Its natural characteristics stand out with its veins and variations in tone, in a final result that is aesthetically very appealing and has a very natural appearance.
The neck is made of mahogany and the fingerboard is made of African black wood, with an incredible tone that complements the dark tones of the body.
For an instrument of such small dimensions, the APC GC guitalele has surprising volume and sound sustainability, with a pleasant and smooth timbre, making it easy to hear, accompanying other instruments or just as support for the voice.
The guitalele is a hybrid instrument between the guitar and the ukulele. It combines the portability of a ukulele with the versatility of a six-string guitar. Practical and fun, it allows you to play complete guitar chords, making it very useful not only for taking on a trip but also for introducing children to string instruments.
The guitalele is - basically - a mini guitar with nylon strings. It has the dimensions of a baritone ukulele and plays like a standard guitar, as the tuning is a fourth above the traditional guitar tuning: A - D - G - C - E - A. In other words, it's as if they were playing a normally tuned guitar but with a dash on the fifth fret. Or as if it were a ukulele with two more low strings.
APC was founded in 1976 by António Pinto Carvalho, who comes from a century-old school of luthiers in Porto. The company has around 45 artisans who build different types of traditional Portuguese chordophones and those from other origins. APC is the largest national company in this field, producing and selling instruments to more than twenty countries.
