Description

Discover the traditional and ancient sounds of the APC MDA305 bandola. Made in Portugal.

The mandola is an original instrument that has existed for centuries in various European traditions. APC is one of the largest builders of traditional chordophones in Portugal, and has recovered this tradition with a modern instrument that captures the versatile and hypnotic sound of the mandola.

The top of the APC MDA305 headband is made of solid spruce and the bottom and sides are made of sapele. The tuning machines are simple, keeping the eight strings in tune safely. The body has a simple decoration and a glossy finish.

The mandola is an eight-string chordophone of European origin, tuned one octave below the mandolin (G-D-A-E, from bass to treble). It is related to the mandolin, but has a larger, pear-shaped case.

In addition to being used in traditional Portuguese music, it is also heard in Celtic music, particularly in Irish music, where it is known as octave mandolin.

There are also other types of bandola, which are part of South American folklore traditions: the four-stringed llanera band, the eight-string oriental band, and the Colombian Andean band, with 12 to 18 strings.

APC is one of the most important manufacturers of Portuguese popular instruments, preserving the balance between tradition and innovation, and with quality guaranteed by the enormous experience of this brand.

Its founder, António Pinto Carvalho, began learning the art of building guitars and cavaquinhos, from his grandfather, when he was just 10 years old.

In 1976 he created APC, specializing in the construction of chordophones, which grew to become the largest national company in the field, with around 50 employees, who give authenticity and a personal touch to each instrument, manufactured with the most advanced technology. construction, for greater precision and rigor. Modernity and tradition are the keys to this company that proudly promotes Portuguese cultural tradition.

The APC MDA305 mandola is a traditional instrument with a rich history and an ideal sound for playing traditional Portuguese or Celtic-inspired themes.
