Thomastik

Thomastik-Infeld is a company with a long history. Before the outbreak of World War I, Dr. Franz Thomastik (luthier and PhD in Philosophy) began experimenting with various raw materials for potential use in string production. From 1919 he did the systematic research in materials together with the engineer Otto Infeld. The co-operation of the founders of the present company was initially a joint effort of two separate companies, but they shared facilities in Vienna, Austria. In 1921 the joint venture advanced.

In the early 1930s, Thomastik-Infeld already exported half of its production, mainly to Britain and the USA, but the company was destroyed during World War II, resuming production in 1946 and reaching production levels of the prewar period in 1950.

At present, it continues to produce quality ropes using state-of-the-art technology and highly skilled labor.
